Graduate support – Bath Spa University

We offer a range of support services for recent Bath Spa graduates, from guiding you with employment and further study to taking that next step in your career.

Grad Support Unit

If the last university you graduated from was Bath Spa University, we have a range of services available through our Grad Support Unit to help you make successful steps into employment, further study or working for yourself.

Graduated in the last year?

As a Class of 2023 graduate, you can continue to receive support by registering for a graduate account and then the dedicated Grad Support Unit on MyCareer.

In addition to monthly newsletters outlining support, graduate digital guides and e-learning programmes, giving access to Freelance and Enterprise Support and a Career Coaching Programme in the January after you graduate, we also offer:

One-to-one appointments

You can book dedicated and personalised 30-minute career coaching appointments to discuss any aspect of your employability needs, such as:

  • Guidance on your career direction, whether you have a few ideas or a laser focus
  • CVs and cover letters, to keep you at the top of the application pile
  • Help with your job searching, especially discovering the 'hidden' jobs market
  • Top tips for application forms, so that you tick all the boxes
  • Preparing for interviews, and how to frame your answers to impress any panel

Need to discuss something else? No problem! Just let us know what you need help with.

Graduate Placement Scheme

We run a Graduate Placement Scheme that matches your talents with opportunities that are fully paid, exclusive and tailored to recent Bath Spa University graduates. These types of opportunity typically take place with local businesses and are either six weeks long, working 30 hours per week, or 12 weeks long working 15 hours per week.

Applications for this Scheme always begin by applying through MyCareer.

Help finding a job

You’ll find hundreds of vacancies from approved employers on MyCareer, including graduate schemes, permanent opportunities and internships that will get your career started.

Freelance and business start-up support and grants

We have specialised resources that cover freelancing and self-employment and ways to support you in becoming your own boss.

Thanks to Santander Universities, our three grants of Explore It, Launch It and Grow It can award £500 to £5,000 to help support your idea, whether on your own or with others. You can find out more information and how to apply on the start-up and enterprise support webpage.

Career-enhancing events

We run career-enhancing events designed to help you connect with industry, meet employers and improve your employability skills, as well as informative workshops designed to help you master job searching, CV-writing, application forms, interviews and more. Our events are open to graduates from all courses.

You're welcome to attend any session, as it'll include information that's transferable to different industries and allow you to plan ahead.

EMERGE, Bath Studio Residency

We teamed up with Santander Universities to open EMERGE, our creative studio based at Sion Hill. EMERGE is a space to collaborate, share ideas and network with other creative graduates and industry practitioners.

Every year we welcome 30 recent Bath Spa graduates from across four key areas of the creative industries – art, design, performance, and media – for a six-month studio residency to develop or continue a successful creative practice.

If you have any enquiries about EMERGE, please email emerge@bathspa.ac.uk.

Local Studio Residencies

Continuing your creative practice after university can be challenging, which is why we work with local studio providers to help support new creative graduates with work space needs.

Our Studio Residencies scheme provides new Bath Spa graduates with up to ten months of free studio space (including utility bills) and access to a range of facilities and peer support, funded by the University.

Find out more about our workspace providers and how to apply on our Studio Residencies page.

Graduated in the last three years?

We still look forward to supporting you when you register for a Graduate account on MyCareer. Please include your student number so that we can quickly verify your registration.

We also still offer information, advice and guidance in a variety of ways such as through our Ask A Question feature and our events schedule.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

We want to hear about what you're doing after graduation! Don't forget to keep in touch; if you've updated your contact details since graduating, please let us know by emailing alumni@bathspa.ac.uk.

Bath Spa University graduates, along with all UK university leavers, will be contacted 15 months after graduation to complete the national Graduate Outcomes Survey. You'll be asked questions about whether you're in employment, freelancing, further study or doing something else, and to reflect on the value your studies have played in your current activities - although not every path or destination is expected to be totally straightforward!

Your responses also help the University to shape and improve services for future and current students, as well as giving them an insight into career destinations, so all shared experiences are really valuable.
