A non-repayable grant to support you with increased costs such as food, bills and travel.

Applications for the Cost of Living Fund closed on 5 April 2024.

If you've experienced financial difficulty due to the increased cost of living, you can apply for a non-repayable grant from the Bath Spa University Cost of Living Fund.

This fund is designed to give BSU students support with increased costs such as food, bills and travel (including to and from your family home). If your application is successful, you will receive at least £100.

Criteria

To be eligible for the fund you must be:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate student (home or international) at Bath Spa University
  • Currently studying at one of our campuses in Bath (Newton Park, Locksbrook, Sion Hill) or Corsham Court.

The size of the fund is limited, and the awards are discretionary. Unfortunately students who do not study in Bath cannot apply.

Application process

The fund closed at 23:59 BST on 5 April 2024. If you applied, you should be contacted by email at the end of April with the outcome. You may also be contacted to provide additional documentation.

What happens next

Applications will be reviewed when the fund closes.

If you have been successful:

  • We hope to notify you by the end of April 2024
  • The payment date of the awards will be included in the email notifying you have been successful
  • Payments are made directly to the bank account details provided via the AppHub – please check your details are correct.

FAQs

I'm a student at BSU London, can I apply?

No, unfortunately you cannot apply to the fund. BSU London students register throughout the year, so you cannot apply to this fund as not all students will have registered until the end of June which is when teaching will end for students in Bath.

What information do I need to apply?

We need your student ID number (6 digits on your student card) and your BSU email address.

What other information do I need to provide?

We want to know what you most need help with.

You can apply for help with more than one, but the choices are:

  • Food
  • Travel
  • Bills

We also need to know how much rent you pay per month and if you live more than 25 miles from campus.

What if I need more financial help than the Cost of Living Fund can provide?

If you are successful you may only receive £100 so if you need more help then, if you are an eligible home student, please apply to the University Access Fund.

You can apply to both funds and the outcome of both applications will not be affected. However, your application to either fund may not be successful as funds are limited.

How do I know if my journey from term time address to campus is more than 25 miles?

You can check on a journey planner by entering your postcode where you live and the post code for your campus:

  • Locksbrook BA1 3EL
  • Sion Hill BA1 5SF
  • Newton Park BA2 9BN
  • Corsham Court SN13 0BZ

You can still apply for travel help whatever distance you live from campus, as travel may include a journey back to your family home.

What do I do if I'm can't access the form?

Please log in to the form using your normal Bath Spa University credentials. Do not use your private email account.

If you cannot log in and are experiencing an issue with your log in details, please follow the guidance on the IT services webpage.

Do I need to provide any proof of income or expenditure?

Not at this stage. If we require evidence, we will contact you by email.

Where can I get more information?

If you have any further questions regarding the fund, eligibility or application process please email costofliving@bathspa.ac.uk.
