Decoding your results email

Your official results email will be sent to your Bath Spa University email address and your personal email address.

At the bottom of your results email, there will be a transcript of your module results, against which each module will be marked as:

  • Passed
  • Failed
  • Reassessments

There will also be a mark and a grade code. These will show the mark and grade for your successfully passed modules. If a module is not successfully passed, there will be one of the following grade codes against the module:

  • R - Referred to next Assessment opportunity (capped at the minimum grade - 40 for undergraduate students and 50 for postgraduate students)
  • L - Deferred to next Assessment opportunity (uncapped) - usually due to accepted Exceptional Circumstances but may be other circumstances
  • UP - Failure through Academic Misconduct (otherwise known as Unfair Practice)
  • F - Fail with no reassessment permitted
  • WF - Withdrawn - module withdrawn from record, for example, due to a course transfer or a period of intercalation (please put in a box)

Please be aware that any marks given to you by your module tutor prior to the official results publication for that module are provisional-only.

How do we ensure your mark is fair?

Each assessment goes through a rigorous process to make sure grades and marks are fairly awarded. For more information, this marking and moderation flowchart outlines the journey each of your assessments takes to ensure that the mark you receive is fair.

Progression

For undergraduates

Whether or not you can progress onto your next level of study will depend on how many outstanding credits you have by the end of the academic year.

For more information, this Results Flowchart explains the Progression Rules.

Your official results email will also confirm your progression options to you.

If you've received your results email and have questions about the progression information in the email, please contact the Assessments team via My Services

For postgraduates

With postgraduate degrees, the progression rules do not apply in the same way. For postgraduate students, failure of 60 credits or more will automatically result in exclusion.
