If you're an assessment-only student and have any questions about what this means for your studies or status at the University, you can find answers to some common questions below.

What is an assessment-only student?

Assessment-only students are students who have reached the end of their course, but still have some outstanding assessments or reassessments to complete. For example, you may have deferred one or more assessments through Exceptional Circumstances and need to complete these assessments in order to achieve your full award.

How do I know if I'm an assessment-only student?

If you're an assessment-only student, you'll receive email confirmation of this. This email will contain full information on what you need to complete, and how being an assessment-only student will affect your studies.

How does my academic year work if I'm an assessment-only student?

During this time, you don't need to attend timetabled sessions and your eligibility for student funding may be affected. However, you'll still need to complete your outstanding assessments, which will be detailed in your official results email. Although you won't attend any taught sessions during this time, you'll still receive support from your module tutors and your Academic Advisors.

Email

As a Bath Spa University registered student, you're provided with a University email address and are required to use this for all email correspondence with the University (e.g. speaking with teaching staff and administrative teams).

You're required to check your email inbox regularly, as the University uses email as the primary method of communication for essential notifications and updates.

As an assessment-only student, you can download and use the MyBathSpa app, which provides quick links to Bath Spa University services and access to student notifications. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play store or view it in your browser.

Share your feedback

You can share your feedback or ask questions by clicking on the Student Feedback tile on the Bath Spa app. All students with an @bathspa.ac.uk email address will receive fortnightly all-student emails, a regular library, wellbeing and an IT newsletter. Weekly careers newsletters are optional.

You can also share feedback via Unitu, our online student feedback platform.

Finance and funding

As an assessment-only student, you won't be charged tuition fees and are therefore not eligible to receive Maintenance support.

If you're on a break from your studies, you can't apply to the University Access Fund but we may make exceptions on a case by case basis if the break is from a full-time course and you have no possible means of income. Please contact studentawards@bathspa.ac.uk for further details.

Students on a study break are not eligible for DSA funding.

It's important that you inform your provider of study skills and mentoring support at the same time that you request the break from the University.

Once your break has been confirmed, please inform the DSA team that you're on a study break.

You should make sure that your funding is in place before you return to study. Contact the DSA team for advice on any next steps, or get in touch with our Student Wellbeing Services via MyWellbeing.
