How long is postgraduate study?
Most postgraduate courses (such as a Master's degree, or PGCE) are studied over one year, with part-time options taking two years. This can vary depending on your course, and you should check the information on your course page.
What is the difference between a Master's and a PGCE?
A Master's degree is typically pursued to further your knowledge in an area you may have studied at undergraduate level or gained prior knowledge in through work. A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), is a teacher training qualification, typically taken after an undergraduate degree.
How am I assessed?
Just like on your undergrad course, you’ll be assessed in a range of different ways, depending on your subject. These can include essays, projects, presentations and performances. The difference at postgraduate level is that your assessments may be more in-depth, to demonstrate your thorough understanding of the subject material.
Do I have to stay in Bath?
No! You may love the idea of staying in your student city, but if you’re keen to broaden your horizons there are options to do some of our courses as distance learning courses. We also have our BSU London campus, offering a selection of courses.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a full-time Master’s degree for a UK student studying at Bath Spa University in the 2025/26 academic year ranges from £8,985-£9,520. You’ll also need to cover living, travel and other study expenses. As an alumn, if you’re studying a postgraduate degree, you’ll be eligible for the £2,000 Alumni Scholarship.
