What we do

Research within the Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation Research Cluster is focused on the living world – how it functions, how we are changing it and how preserving it can benefit us.

Our members have backgrounds and interests in environmental assessment and management, from understanding the functioning of degraded ecosystems, quantifying ecotoxicology & pollution, to restoration and reconstruction of habitats and rewilding.

We are working to understand and monitor wildlife behaviour, ecology and population trends, and to understand how human perceptions of and interactions with the natural world affect our environment.

Our research applies established and emerging methods in lab and field, and considers the contributions members of the public can make as “citizen scientists”. Utilising the living resources on our doorstep and further afield to support our students’ learning, and bringing the natural world closer to them pervades our work.
