Personal statement
Vicki is a Lecturer in BA Dance at Bath Spa University. Vicki lectures in contemporary dance technique, performance, and dance history, and is a choreographic supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. Her academic interests lie in Dance History and Philosophy, and exploring gender identity and feminism through dance performance and pedagogy.
In addition to her role at Bath Spa, Vicki is artistic director of Untold Dance Theatre, supported by Arts Council England. The company’s focus is to create socio-political dance theatre works drawing on current themes from a feminist perspective. The company has toured nationally with works including Women Wise (2017), Ties That Bind (2019) and On the Inside (2021).
Alongside touring, Vicki established The Confidence Project, a specialist outreach course designed to empower women of all ages and backgrounds through movement and discussion. This project was a collaboration between Untold and Professor Simone Fullagar (University of Bath) and was delivered to a variety of groups including women from Knowle West Health Centre, Dance Therapy Groups in Yorkshire and students from Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Vicki has also worked extensively in the community dance sector. She co-directed Kinesis Youth Dance Company from 2013-2018 and co-directs Gerry’s Attic, an over 55s performance company, alongside Julia Thorneycroft. She has also delivered workshops and received choreographic commissions from youth dance companies and colleges in the South West.
As a performer Vicki has worked for Julia Thorneycroft, State of Emergency, Emily Brown and Chhaya Collective.
