Course studied: BA (Hons) English Literature
Graduating year: 2024

What's been the best thing about your course?

The structure of the BA (Hons) English Literature course enabled me to tailor my studies to my research interests, with the varying assessment forms offering invaluable opportunities to develop a professional portfolio of work.

The size of the faculty and the close working relationships with other disciplines in the School of Writing, Publishing and Humanities have made my degree so much richer, and the English Literature team truly are so inspiring.

The people that I have had the chance to make friends with and work with along the way have made my university experience so special. I will always be grateful for the chance to debate and talk about books in seminars each week.

What's been your favourite experience so far?

I had the opportunity to write my dissertation on the intersection of literature and politics post-Brexit, an area of contemporary literary culture that I am really passionate about. With the support of my brilliant supervisor, Dr Nicola Presley, the process truly was one of my favourite things I've ever done.

Completing such a long form piece of writing in tandem with my third year modules felt like the perfect ending to my undergraduate degree.

My internship as an Editorial Assistant at the Irish Studies Review journal has also been an amazing addition to my second and third years. This chance to gain industry experience within academic publishing is something that I am very grateful for and has enabled me to vastly broaden my professional skillset to take forward.

I was President of the English Literature Society for 23/24 following on from my role as Vice-President in the 22/23 committee, as well as also sitting as Vice-Chair for the 23/24 Democracy and Scrutiny Committee. Working with the SU team and SABBs has been a great extension to my university experience.

Favourite thing to do in Bath?

The heritage and culture that Bath offers is truly something special. There is always a new café or bakery to try, and so many amazing independent businesses.

My personal favourite way to spend time in the city is to grab a coffee and wander around the bookshops, particularly Toppings and Mr B's.
