Graduating year: 2017
Bath Spa Dance graduate Jasmine is now based in Essex as a Freelance Community Dance Artist. She teaches independent classes under her business, Jasmine Hall Dance, which provides creative and engaging workshops and lessons for a range of ages and abilities. Jasmine also delivers projects for The Dance Network Association, a dance development organisation in Essex which brings dance to the community. The projects include the mass choreography and performance, Keeping Dance Alive, which celebrates the Great War Centenary, and Step Into Dance: high-quality extra-curricular dance sessions run by freelancers for the Royal Academy of Dance.
Jasmine has also been an Administrator for various departments at The University of Essex and is now the Administrative Assistant for The Dance Network Association.
Her next adventure is ‘Antiquity’, a dance company created by Jasmine and two other Bath Spa Graduates, Thea Criswell-Sanderson and Beth Williams. The company focuses on the integration of dance and museums, bringing history alive through movement. Future plans include creating a dance film, and a performance and outreach programme with the local community to engage with a range of museums through movement and creativity.
"I cannot thank Bath Spa enough for the amount of ways they prepared me for my future. Not only did the course develop my physical technique and performance skills, it allowed me to grow as a creative artist."
How did Bath Spa prepare you to take steps into the industry?
I cannot thank Bath Spa enough for the amount of ways they prepared me for my future. Not only did the course develop my physical technique and performance skills, it allowed me to grow as a creative artist. Through the Creative Dance Practice module, I was taught many tools and techniques in creating innovative choreography and a diverse movement range.
Additionally, the specialised modules such as Somatics and Digital Dance opened me up to a new perspective of dance and has enriched me with many creative ideas of what dance can be and ways in creating and presenting it. I am now able to construct interesting and engaging workshops for my students which are unique, thanks to the breadth of knowledge I gained from Bath Spa.
...My dissertation module and Professional Development Planning (PDP) module has helped me significantly in stepping into the real world. My dissertation module allowed me to develop a full understanding of how to run a dance company, including the producing, organisation and financial aspects. Alongside the sessions with the PDP module, I felt completely ready to start my own business and build myself as a freelancer after graduation. This is due to the inspiring artists, companies and businesses that presented to us each week which gave me the knowledge in how to achieve my goals and the confidence to reach them.
