Holly’s story
Holly studied BA (Hons) Dance at Bath Spa University, graduating in 2021.
My experience on the course
The staff were lovely and welcoming which continued through my study. The campus and dance facilities were ideal for class, rehearsal and performance experience. The course integrated regular different choreographers, opportunities to teach and perform.
"My final year felt the most progressive and exciting. Chances to be in multiple choreographies at once, working on my own dissertation and seeing it all come to life with the freedom of lighting and other possibilities."
The course allowed me to explore many paths into the industry such as performance, choreography, screen dance, somatic practice and teaching. The lecturers were motivating and extremely helpful in terms of aiding you in research and knowledge on certain areas of the industry and education opportunities.
The best thing about the course was the variety of workshops.
My next steps
After graduating from Bath Spa I continued onto a postgraduate MA degree in performance training with a dance company called MAP. As part of this I worked with four different choreographers, creating three very different works and one remake. We toured 14 shows around England, gaining experience, contacts and knowledge on ourselves, our company and opportunities around the country.

My advice for current students
It's vital to listen to your physical and mental needs in the dancing industry, so surround yourself in motivating, positive and supportive settings with education, social and work life.
