Personal statement
Dr Natassia Nascimento is an economist and social researcher specializing in the intersections of income inequality, taxation, wealth distribution, and the economic impacts of climate change, particularly in emerging economies.
With over a decade of academic and professional experience, she has held lecturer and teaching assistant roles at leading institutions, in Brazil and the UK, contributed to research working on high-level discussions about sustainable development and innovation at UCL and contributed to cutting-edge research for organizations such as the World Bank and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
She recently joined BSU London, as lecturer and module leader for Economics and Globalisation and Innovation and Management.
Dr Nascimento earned her PhD in Economics with First Class Honours from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on income and wealth concentration and property tax dynamics in Brazil. Her education includes international academic training at institutions such as SOAS, King’s College, and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
She is deeply engaged in the research community, authoring articles, coordinating interdisciplinary working groups, and presenting at major conferences like UNCTAD Summer School and WAPLAC. As an active member and Coordinator of the Young Scholars Initiative, she contributes to organising workshops and conferences for the Inequality Working Group, most recently moderating a session at the G20 Social.
A committed educator, Dr Nascimento has taught courses ranging from the core modules of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Math and Statistics to advanced modules of International Economics, International Finance and Development Studies. Her teaching philosophy emphasises combining theoretical rigor with real-world applications, exemplified through initiatives like class debates and interdisciplinary case competitions.
Fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and with a working visa for the UK, EU, and Mercosur, Dr Nascimento is a dynamic contributor to academia and policy-making, driven by a mission to advance inclusive and sustainable economic practices globally.
