Personal statement

Margherita joined the School of Sciences in July 2024. Her research combines approaches from political ecology, environmental justice and geographies of social movements. She has extensive experience working with Indigenous communities and organisations in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Her work examines the territorial dimensions of Indigenous struggles for autonomy and post-extractive futures and the politics of collaborations between environmentalists and Indigenous activists. 

Margherita is also a member of the Young Academy for Sustainability Research at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Freiburg University. 

Margherita has taught human geography at the University of Edinburgh and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
