Personal statement

Katharine Hillier is a Senior Lecturer on the Fashion Design BA course, teaching into all Levels and leading several modules across the course. She specialises in developing the students' 2D skills and portfolio work, which varies from research, design development, building and editing a range to illustrating and presenting it.

Having worked in the fashion industry for twenty years, Katharine has extensive experience designing woven womenswear collections for heritage British brands, including Jaeger, Boden and Joules.  A personal passion is outerwear, vintage clothing, utility wear as well as print/pattern/woven checks. 

Her passion concerning the circular economy mean she is keen to follow the innovation of fabrications for clothing in this arena.  

Katharine encourages her students to develop 2D design work and portfolio skills with a view to bridging the gap between the student's academic journey and their path beyond university.
