Personal statement

Jo teaches on the BA Drama Musical Theatre pathway, BA Music and BA Commercial Music courses, focusing on vocal practice and community music. She specialises in non-classical singing styles and spends her time coaching performers in vocal technique and performance skills; encouraging singers to use their voices safely, explore their sound to tell their song’s story, and connect with their audience while on stage.

An experienced community musician, Jo is also passionate about making music-making accessible to all. Drawing on her extensive professional experience as a music workshop leader, Jo teaches music leadership skills to equip our students for working in the vibrant UK community music sector.

Her pedagogical interests centre around the application of Estill Technique for non-classical vocalists and empathetic music leadership skills.

Jo also sustains an active freelance career, providing community singing and team-building workshops across the nation. She greatly enjoys her role as a workshop leader for Bath Philharmonia’s Creative Learning Team, creating new music with young carers, as well was supporting grass-roots music-making as President of the local Priston Music Festival.
