Personal statement

Emma is Director of Research and Innovation at the Royal College of Art (RCA). She is responsible for the strategic leadership and development of research, knowledge exchange and innovation across the College, and is a member of the RCA’s senior management team and council.

Before joining the RCA, Emma was Associate Director of Programmes at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC, now part of UKRI), with responsibility for postgraduate funding, knowledge exchange and creative economy strategy. Emma is a regular member of UK Research and Innovation funding assessment panels and advisory groups. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal College of Art.

Prior to this, while studying for a doctorate in Music at Royal Holloway, University of London, Emma worked as an editor on the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and as the administrator of one of the UK’s leading early music ensembles. She still enjoys making music, and is a member of the Bath Symphony Orchestra and other local ensembles.
