Personal statement

Emily Asbury is a Senior Lecturer in Primary English and joint lead for the PGCE Primary English team for the Institute of Education at Bath Spa University; she teaches on the PGCE and EYITT post-graduate teacher training routes, as well as teaching on undergraduate and TeachFirst routes. She also lectures in professional studies and supports CPD in Primary Schools.

Alongside working as a primary school teacher and middle leader in South Gloucestershire, Emily completed a Masters in Education which explored gender gaps in primary writing attainment.

She is currently working on a research project which investigates the representations of marginalised groups in children’s books. Her research interests include equality in educational attainment and international perspectives on reading and early literacy, alongside participatory research methodologies.
