Personal statement

David Almond is Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing. His main focus is on writing for young people. He has written many novels, stories, picture books, opera librettos, songs and plays, with work translated into over forty languages, some widely adapted for stage and screen.

He has received many major awards, including the Carnegie Medal, two Whitbreads, The Eleanor Farjeon Award, le Prix Sorcieres, and the Michael L Printz Award. In 2010 he gained the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the world’s most prestigious prize for children’s authors.
