Thursday, 4 January, 2024

Bath Spa University alum Tyler Spicer is a UK multi-award nominated country music producer who is rapidly making a name for himself with his global repertoire of clients. He has recently been nominated for ‘UK Musician of the Year’ in the 2023 British Country Music Association Awards.

Tyler currently produces, writes and records predominantly out of NAM Studios, Bath. He also runs a successful music-centric YouTube channel with almost 3 million views and has various brand collaborations with global brands such as La Bella Strings, Bluesman Vintage Guitars, Klōs Guitars and Mooer.

After achieving a first-class BA in Music and English Literature, as well as a MA in Sound (Composition and Sonic Art), Tyler entered the music industry as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, touring across the globe with acts of all genres, from jazz and pop to classical and folk.

In 2014, he began specialising in the country and country/pop space and was the centre-piece performance of BBC Radio Bristol’s Christmas Concert broadcast at the Bristol Beacon.

In 2021, Tyler was nominated by the British Country Music Association as ‘UK Musician of the Year’, as well as the UK Country Music Spotlight Awards for both ‘UK Musician of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ with I Won’t Forget to Miss You by Together Country.

The following year, Tyler began working with Nashville producer Forest Whitehead. He also has a longstanding working relationship with Grammy-nominated drummer, Rob Brian, and has since enhanced his global clientele across the UK, Canada and the United States.

Over the past 12 months Tyler has been working with a successful music business coach to help grow his business in preparation for a relocation to Nashville. He's teamed up with Nashville mixer Todd Peterson and they work closely together from both sides of the Atlantic.

Tyler and Todd also have a strong working relationship with mastering engineer Sam Moses, who completes the team for their projects. Tyler’s recent discography includes tracks by Garrett Gregory, Nash Stanley, Daniel Beddoes and hit UK singer-songwriter Nicole Shortland. This, along with many other projects currently in the works, will help his continued rise into 2024.

Reminiscing on his time at Bath Spa, Tyler said:

"My time at Bath Spa was essential to my development as a musician. I look at my time at the University so fondly. I loved the opportunities I had to dip my toes into a variety of creative situations, not just musically, but also working with other disciplines such as film and theatre. Some of those collaborations being taken into a more public space gave me experience and understanding outside of music, which has proved essential to my growth as a creative in the industry.

The general creative feel at the University, as well as the wealth of other creative students and musicians to work with, was my favourite element. Being in that environment pushed me as a musician to explore new musical and artistic avenues, whilst still knowing I was in a supportive environment to learn, make mistakes, and be guided in my development. Many of the skills I developed at Bath Spa have carried me through my career and form the bedrock of my success today."
