SparkFest 2023: What not to miss

Hundreds of Bath Spa Music and Performing Arts students will be showcasing their talents at this year’s SparkFest.
The annual arts festival, which is is produced by the School’s own production company, Bath Spa Productions, in collaboration with Bath Festivals, runs from 9 May to 12 June. 

Over the five weeks hundreds of students, as well as staff, alumni and collaborators - will be taking part in performances all over Bath. And with around 100 performances, including everything from plays and comedy shows, to digital productions and debates, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s just a few of the highlights you won’t want to miss…

Murder Mr Ree

9 May, 7pm, Newton Park Campus
20 May, 3pm, Burdall’s Yard
4 June, 3pm, Widcombe Social Club
An entirely improvised, riotously ridiculous crime thriller. With the audience dictating everything from the scene of the crime to the suspects, no two shows are ever the same.

Play the Museum

12 May, from 6.20pm
Holburne Museum
Bath Spa University postgraduate students respond to the collection, the space and the history of the Holburne Museum in a playful, cross-disciplinary collaboration, combining artwork, music and dance. Short performances will be happening in different places throughout the evening and audience members can come and go as they please.


Allons-y

16 May, 7pm
Burdall’s Yard
BA (Hons) Acting alumnus Frank Hussey returns to SparkFest once again with a one-man show to delight and entertain! Join Frank for this performance celebrating his love for a TV show about adventures in time and space.

The Judgement of Paris: Remixed

19 May, 7.30pm and 20 May, 2pm
The Old Theatre Royal
A reimagination of the classic English opera, originally set as part of a musical competition in the 1700s, sees two very different musical styles coming together in one production. Two Baroque scores are melded together in act one, while in the second half the story is retold through Broadway musical songs.

Lazy on the Lawn

Holburne Museum
Bring the family, bring a picnic, and enjoy an afternoon of music, performance and family fun in the stunning gardens of the Holburne Museum.

Psalm Chants Arranged For Female Voices

24 May, 4pm
The Mission Theatre
A beautiful and meditative performance looking at the relationship between religion and music in a secular setting.

Promenade theatre in Victoria Park
The story of two girls falling in love unfolds as audiences are taken on a guided walk through Victoria Park.

Creative Music Technology Graduate Show

1 June, 7pm
Widcombe Social Club
Music meets art meets technology in this showcase of work by final year BA (Hons) Creative
Music Technology students.Expect a diverse range of produced music, sound and composition, multimedia screenings, audio postproduction for film, game sound and sonic performance.
