Celebrating BSU's community spirit with new 'Home From Home' Film
Tuesday, 10 December, 2024Bath Spa University is proud to launch its first ever holiday campaign, ‘BSU Home From Home’, showcasing the community spirit that exists within the University.
Following the story of a student in search of his holiday spirit, the film takes us on a journey as that very spirit is found within those closest to them.
Inspired by an old Christmas tree bauble that reminds them of home, the story shows how your University community can truly become your home from home, with friends coming together to decorate and celebrate the festive season.
The film also takes us into the beating heart of Bath’s Christmas Market, showcasing the city at its very best. A love letter to the city, the short film reminds us of the power of friendship, small acts of kindness and the milestone of what might be your first festive time away from home, in halls of residence. BSU’s ‘Home From Home’ campaign acts as a reminder as to how we can all connect with our own communities, within BSU and beyond.
The project itself was produced entirely with BSU students, staff and alumni, with a real community of people coming together to make it possible. BA Comedy alum Kobe Distin appears as the lead, with the real-life friends and flatmates of Oak Halls of Residence responding to a social media callout to become the stars of the campaign.
As part of the new ‘#HomeFromHome’ campaign, BSU students were also invited to partake in a social media competition showcasing their newly-decorated flats. Run in collaboration with Student Accommodation, the winners were awarded two hampers from the Newton St. Loe Farm Shop.
BSU will support our community of students who are living on campus over the festive period. BSU's Wellbeing Helpline is a confidential service that gives Bath Spa University students immediate access to advice and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Call 0800 028 3766. BSU security team is on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via +44 (0)1225 875555. Further details of support available to our students will be added to our 'Winter break' webpage in the coming week.
Lucy Stone, Head of Communications and Brand Development, spoke about the importance of the film:
“This film showcases who we are as a community, coming together for the holiday period. We chose to use real-life first year flatmates and friends as they prepared for their first festive time together, decorating their kitchen, cooking a meal and spending time together. The authenticity of genuine friendship and festive spirit shines through and allows us to connect with the people at the heart of the film. We all have different experiences and expectations around the festive time, and this film epitomises our community of why BSU is such a special place.”
The film was written and produced by Senior Communications Officer Matt Francis and directed and edited by Digital Content Producer Niklas Aarre, both BSU alumni now working in the Communications and Marketing teams.
Matt commented:
“Watching this film go from concept to realisation has been a real honour and I’m indebted to all of those that have been involved in bringing it to life. The hope is this short film can highlight why BSU is so special but also serve as a timely reminder of how we are all stronger when we work together, both during the holiday season and beyond.”
