BSU welcomes back 2024 Graduate Scheme members

Bath Spa University proudly boasts a diverse range of multi-talented alumni, which is why we work hard and commit to their futures by creating roles within our graduate scheme.

The Bath Spa Graduate Scheme offers 18 month, professional-level roles to recent graduates who wish to take the first steps in their professional careers at Bath Spa University.

This year, after a successful pilot launch in 2023, the graduate scheme was able to offer 13 positions across the University, with a variety of options available to students.

Katie Wroe-Beacon, who successfully applied in 2023 and has worked at BSU ever since, spoke of her experience on the scheme:

“I joined the graduate scheme in September 2023 and it has been a really valuable opportunity. It’s also a great launching pad, allowing me to gain confidence in my own decision making and skills, whilst also setting me up for the rest of my career.

Part of my job as a Graduate Alumni Engagement Assistant enables me to frequently chat with alumni and hear about their stories. That’s a really special element of what I do on a day-to-day basis. The familiar environment and extra support that the Graduate Scheme offers has been invaluable to me and I’m now able to more confidently communicate my skills and express what I can bring to the table.”

This week, the incoming cohort of successful Graduate Scheme candidates attended a Keep in Touch session, allowing them to have initial meetings with their team members, meet other graduates on the scheme, think about what they want to achieve in their role and get a feel for what the next 18 months hold. Present Graduate Scheme members were also on hand to give talks and offer advice.

The Graduate Scheme is part of BSU’s ongoing commitment to our students and graduates, giving them the opportunity to fully embed themselves in the Bath Spa culture whilst also attaining practical skills that will aid them in later life.

BSU Employability Coach, Rajinder Boucher, works to develop relationships with Graduate Scheme members and spoke of her excitement ahead of the second cohort’s arrival in September this year:

“The Bath Spa Graduate Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for recent graduates to launch their professional career within higher education over a course of 18 months. It provides clear structure within a familiar and nurturing environment with access to a rich and plentiful training and development programme. It enables various services and departments across the university to implement a fresh and dynamic perspective when it comes to understanding the student journey. The growth of the Bath Spa Graduate Scheme is a real testament to the commitment that BSU places in attracting a diverse workforce which reflects the latest skills and knowledge.”
