Fashion Design students showcase at Graduate Fashion Week 2024

Thursday, 18 July, 2024

Bath Spa University Fashion Design students have been celebrating their success in the capital at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) where the graduating students were given the opportunity to showcase their work.

The event, which was a part of the Graduate Fashion Foundation the charity behind GFW in Brick Lane, gave third year students a chance to celebrate their BSU journey.

It wasn’t just third-year students that were involved on the day, with second year Fashion students also dressing the professional models backstage.

During the weeklong event ten graduating students were shortlisted as finalists for various prestigious awards. However, it was two BSU students in particular who were announced as winners. Jaz Bhachu winning the GFF Sportswear and Leisurewear Award sponsored by Gymshark and Hannah Bailey Winner of the BSU Fashion presentation and also included within the Best of GFW24 catwalk and award show at the end of the week.

Speaking about her win, Hannah touched on the journey that culminated in her showcase at Graduate Fashion Week:

“Graduate Fashion Week was such an amazing experience. Having gone from being a dresser in second year, to then having my work on the runway in final year was definitely a full circle moment. I didn't even expect to be finished in time to go to GFW due to some personal circumstances, so winning the Best in Show was such a shock. I felt super proud of the whole BSU cohort- to see everyone's final collections come together was a real celebration!”

Emma Askew-Miller, Programme leader in Fashion Design at Bath Spa Said

“We are extremely delighted and proud of the achievements from our graduating students this year, especially Jaz and Hannah. Very well deserved and an acknowledgement of their dedication and hard work throughout their time at BSU.”

The event allows everyone to pause for reflection and celebrate the years its taken to arrive at this moment, with Bath Spa University’s Professor of Fashion and Sustainability, Tamara Cincik, speaking of her pride in the students:

“It has been great to see the Bath Spa Fashion Design and the Textiles Design Graduates at Graduate Fashion Week and New Designers. At both shows I saw real talent and design integrity. I wish all our recent graduates every success with their creative careers, they show exceptional promise.”
