BSU student selected for European Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships

Monday, 16 September, 2024

Renzo Binas, a BA Business Management student at Bath Spa University, has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the European Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships. After years of dedication and rigorous training, Renzo is preparing for the upcoming competition in October, where he will travel to the Czech Republic to compete on an international stage.

Renzo has navigated a demanding yet fulfilling journey in powerlifting. He began with the regional qualifiers in the South West, where he achieved the necessary qualifying total to advance to the National Championships. There, his performance secured him a third-place finish, which qualified him for international selection. His impressive skill and progress caught the attention of the Great British coaching team, leading to his selection for the European Championships.

Commenting on his achievement, Renzo stated:

“This opportunity means the world to me because it allows me to represent my country, which is a major goal for many powerlifters. It’s a huge privilege. All my hard work and sacrifices in this sport were worth it, especially considering the challenges I’ve faced along the way.”

Reflecting on his time at Bath Spa University, he noted:

“Living in halls allowed me to commute easily to the gym, so being close to training facilities played a big part in my journey. The environment at BSU gave me the balance I needed to stay focused on my goals. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and proximity of the university.”

Renzo has also shared advice for those aspiring to enter competitive powerlifting, emphasising the importance of self-focus and enjoyment:

“I didn’t focus on winning competitions but instead on enjoying the moment. I told myself that if I kept showing up and putting in the work, the opportunities would come. It’s important to remember that powerlifting, or any other sport, is a you vs you competition. At the end of the day, it is all about being a better version of yourself.”

You can help Renzo compete in the European Powerlifting Championships by donating to his GoFundMe page. Congratulations to Renzo for your hard work and dedication to the sport! We wish you the best of luck in the Powerlifting Championships.
