BSU gets into the Christmas spirit with music, poetry and song at the annual Carol Service
Thursday, 5 December, 2024On Monday 9 December, Bath Spa University staff, students and members of the public will come together and celebrate the spirit of Christmas at the University’s yearly Carol Service.
Underneath an installation of stars in Bath’s iconic Abbey, students from the BSU Music Society, MA Music and PGCE Music choirs will sing a selection of Christmas carols, with guests invited to sing along. The service will also feature a dance piece performed by BA Dance students and a poem written by author and BA Creative Writing student, Jonathan Bryan, recited by fellow Creative Writing student George Marren.
Talking about the theme for this years' service, University Chaplain Rev Dr Katy Garner said:
“This year we’re thinking about the theme of journeys we’ve travelled through 2024. We’ll experience dance, music and poetry as students and staff create their interpretation on the theme of journeys. [We hope] people will come and sing some of those familiar carols and create a joyful noise as we celebrate all that we have journeyed through this year, and all that we will for the next year in 2025.”
Staff will also be collecting donations for the local charity Bath Mind, this year’s student-nominated charity.
The Carol Service is at Bath Abbey on Monday 9 December from 7:00pm. Booking is not necessary, and everyone is welcome.
