Business and Management student takes his passions abroad

Wednesday, 19 June, 2024

Third year Business and Management student, Nathan Beudin, has taken his passions international by moving abroad as part of his BA Business and Management degree.

No stranger to adventure, this isn’t the first time Nathan has packed his bags to further his academic journey. In 2020 Nathan moved from his hometown in France to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

Nurturing a passion for business, Nathan has seized every opportunity presented during his degree at BSU and, in 2023, he packed his bags again, accepting a placement at Huron University, Canada.

International placements are just one of the unique opportunities offered to BSU Business and Management students, allowing them to develop first-hand, real-life experience and empowering their entrepreneurial flair.

Nathan chose Huron University for its strong links to the business world. Just a stone’s throw from Ivey Business School, the university was well-placed to fuel his passions further. Discussing the opportunity, Nathan said:

“By studying at another university, in another environment, I was able to learn about business from another point of view. I wanted insight into how people do things on the other side of the world. I wasn’t disappointed! It gave me opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

Expanding his horizons further, Nathan visited Dubai while on his semester abroad. The trip enabled him to explore global business on an even broader scale. He said:

“I learned loads! We visited enterprises and factories and had a few classes at the American University of Dubai. It was a great opportunity to get closer to friends and lecturers who travelled with me.”

Nathan saw the trip as an opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally. Presented with academics and leading industry professionals, he tested himself by exploring the business industry from an entirely new perspective and took full advantage of the networking opportunities, describing the trip as ‘shaping his career’:

“I had moments which made me completely reconsider what I wanted to do. These were crucial for me as a student looking to find what they want to do in their life. I now feel even more driven. Before the semester abroad, I wasn’t sure what path I wanted to pursue. It helped me create a step-by-step process I’m hoping to apply when I leave BSU. It’s a huge improvement.”

Having fully embraced the experience, Nathan urged others to make the most of their time at BSU by pushing themselves out of their comfort zone.

“It helps a lot to see things from another perspective. My semester abroad developed my understanding of Business and Management and gave me fresh insight into the industry. If you get the chance, go for it!”
