BSU launches Careers Week to help students on the path to success

Monday, 21 October, 2024

Bath Spa University is offering a helping hand for students looking to jumpstart their careers, with Careers Week running from 21-25 October. The week has been specially selected for maximum benefit to the student community, with a wide range of events to help students set themselves up for success.

During the week, students will be able to get advice on business start-up and freelancing, learn about the Careers team’s Explore It, Launch It, Grow It! programme, explore work placement and Professional Placement Year opportunities, attend a showcase and workshops from Emerge, BSU’s creative practice studio, and as part of Black History Month, there will be a panel event on Black and Asian leadership in industry. The Careers team will also host several CV checking drop-in sessions.

A highlight of the week will be the Careers Fair on Wednesday 23 October at the University’s Newton Park campus, featuring more than 30 local and national employers, where students can explore placement opportunities and their next steps after graduation.

Peter Tribe, Deputy Head of Careers and Employability at BSU, said:

“We've scheduled these activities to take place in late October, as research from the Institute of Student Employers has shown that the most common time members open their graduate recruitment campaigns is between October and December, with over 80% of them choosing to attend careers fairs.”

Cybil research conducted with over 65,000 students and recent graduates showed that a careers fair was the most popular careers activity and students from all year groups really valued the opportunity to speak directly with employers on campus. Through these events, the University provides students with time to explore, experience and progress their career options.

Careers Week is only one aspect of the University's support. Peter added:

“Help for our students and recent graduates is so much more than just a week in October. Our wrap around support is available all year round, working with colleagues in the curriculum to help students develop the skills, confidence and vision for their personal and professional future.”
