BSU enters new partnership with Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution

Tuesday, 8 October, 2024

Bath Spa University have announced a new partnership with the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI). BRLSI joins 16 other organisations across the creative and cultural sector in Bath that the University is partnered with.

Based in Queen Square, Bath, BRLSI is an educational charity that provides a community hub for those interested in cultural activities and hosts smaller cultural societies who meet in their building. They organise over 100 public talks a year on everything from Bath heritage and philosophy to astronomy and current affairs, and champion educational projects in the wider community.

BRLSI is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year with a vibrant programme of festivals, talks and other activities. This includes the Academy of the Imagination, which inspires young people through BRLSI’s permanent collection of 150,000 scientific and historical objects.

Collaborating with BRLSI will bring opportunities for student projects and placements, short courses, speaker slots for Bath Spa University staff and objects from BRLSI’s collection to be displayed at the University.

Karen Teague, Organisational Partnerships and Alumni Manager at Bath Spa University, said:

“We are delighted to have a new cultural partnership with the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI). Their work spans literature, science, the arts, history and geography – all areas that are central to Bath Spa University. The partnership will bring students and staff unique opportunities to work together through BRLSI’s varied programme of events and festivals, plus its permanent collection.”

Professor Ian Gadd, Chair of the Board at BRLSI, said:

“The Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution has worked closely with both of Bath’s universities for many years, welcoming staff and students as members, volunteers, and speakers as well as visitors to our exhibitions and talks. In our Bicentenary year, we are looking to strengthen our partnerships across the city so I am delighted that we have signed an agreement with Bath Spa University that will enable us to build strategically on what is already a very fruitful relationship.”
