Local creatives shine at The Bath Independent Market

On the third Sunday of every month, The Bath Independent Market proudly hosts a range of creative local businesses, showcasing the very best that the region has to offer.

Situated inside Bath’s iconic Green Park Station, the Bath Independent Market is the perfect place for students to sample the works of fellow creatives, purchase handmade treasures and try extraordinary food.

Adding some BSU flavour to the mix, current MA Commerical Music student, and BA Commercial Music graduate, Heidi Roxton is the spectacular mind behind the market.

First set up as an Instagram community during the COVID-19 outbreak, Heidi sought to amplify the voices of local businesses and ensure their stories were still being told despite the obvious limitations.

It wasn’t until Lockdown lifted that Heidi realised this burgeoning online community could now come together in person, with the Bath Independent Market soon being formed. Speaking about the inception of the market, Heidi said:

“I wanted to do something that would bring people together. We started at the Museum of Bath at Work and moved to Green Park Station in 2022.

We’re proud to host an incredible range of local creatives and sellers, including bakers, jewellers, artists, producers and more. I’ve always had a keen eye for detail and my approach to the market has always been to present the highest quality product possible.”

The markets are running monthly in the lead up to Christmas:

• Sunday 20 October
• Sunday 17 November
• Sunday 15 December

After this, there will be a short break before they return for 2025.

Whilst discussing her experience running the markets, Heidi also reflected on how the skills developed at BSU has helped on her creative journey:

“I love it here. The staff are amazing and incredibly nurturing and, when I graduated from my BA, I left as an incredibly confident and creative person.

I focussed a lot on business management in my third year and that has no doubt helped me when setting up the market and being able to scout and present the very best local artists and makers that Bath has to offer.”

Undoubtedly standing out as Bath’s most contemporary creative market, you can be certain that there is something for everyone.

Whether scanning for Christmas presents or simply looking to treat yourself, the Bath Independent Market hosts a range of sustainable, handmade and, above all else, high-quality products for you to enjoy.

The market can be found inside Green Park Station, with the next one on Sunday 20 October, running from 11 am to 4 pm.
