BSU Students help Bath City Women Break Attendance record
Monday, 10 March, 2025There were multiple reasons to cheer this weekend, with International Women’s Day on Saturday being followed by a victorious Sunday for BSU partners Bath City Women, both on and off the pitch.
On the pitch, the Bath City Women recorded a 5-0 victory over SGS Olveston United, with goals coming from Adella Harris, Koz Thorner-Atkinson, Libby Goater and captain Tara Taylor.
It wasn’t just the result that provided reason to cheer, with a record crowd making history and writing a new chapter for women’s football in the South West. 258 were in attendance at Twerton Park, beating the previous attendance record and punctuating a victorious sunny Sunday.
Coinciding with the first ever Bath Spa University/Bath City Women student day, the crowd at Twerton Park were treated to a family friendly atmosphere as the Romans romped home to victory.
There was plenty of BSU representation across the day, with student volunteers capturing content for their courses and members of the Introduction to Sports Media short course also gaining further practical experience. Whilst not testing her skills in the world of sports media, course attendee Sadie Farley – Bath City Women’s goalkeeper – boasted a clean sheet on the pitch.
Speaking about breaking the attendance record, Bath City Women’s captain Tara Taylor commented:
“It was a great result and performance, we’re all buzzing. It’s even better to know we’ve made another piece of history here with a record crowd. Thank you to everyone who came to support us”
Jane Jones, Director of women's football at Bath City, also touched on the pride of seeing more history made at Twerton Park:
“It was great to see so many supporters at Twerton Park, some of whom were visiting for the first time. It’s another great day for our women’s side and we hope to see many return for future games. I also want to place on record our thanks to Bath Spa University who have been a great help in promoting and organising this historic event.”
Bath Spa University and Bath City Football Club has a long-standing relationship that spans many years, with the University sponsoring both Men’s and Women’s team, as well as the stadium.
