Bath Spa University signs new partnership with Bath Arts Collective

Friday, 8 November, 2024

Bath Spa University has announced a new partnership with Bath Arts Collective (BAC), adding to its community of creative and cultural partners throughout the city.

Founded by three local arts professionals, Kate Hall, Kate Abbey and Jasmine Barker, BAC is a collective of likeminded companies and individuals working to create a vibrant arts scene in Bath and beyond.

BAC offers a rolling programme of curated events specifically around books, film, art and music; provides consultancy services on events programming, production and marketing; and works with performers on their ‘festival footprint’ - finding ways for them to give back to the city and surrounding areas.

Alongside creating events, BAC has created Bath Arts, Culture and Events (BACE), a network that now meets regularly to share best practice, support collaborative work and update on new opportunities in the cultural sector.

The University’s first order of business as a partner will be sponsoring BAC’s Curious Minds festival in March 2025, with the aim to shape an event involving BSU students. BSU will look to collaborate on other festivals organised by BAC, particularly where there is potential for student benefit.

Karen Teague, Organisational Partnerships and Alumni Manager, said that BSU was inspired to join forces with BAC because of their strength in curating a diverse mix of events for the city, from well-known names to emerging creatives, and their enthusiasm for igniting ideas.

She said:

“Bath Arts Collective brings energy and expertise to enhancing Bath’s cultural scene in a way that echoes many of our aims at Bath Spa University.

“We were inspired by the work of BAC during their first year in business and we are looking forward to working with them on their Curious Minds Festival to enhance our student learning experience and to add to the creativity of the city.”

Kate Abbey, BAC Director, said:

“BAC was founded last year with a commitment to create diverse and inclusive events for our city and surrounding areas; to offer students and creative practitioners valuable work experience and places to showcase their skills and to collaborate with other local venues, festivals and arts organisations.

We’ve seen firsthand the variety of cultural projects that BSU develops, supports and champions and so we’re thrilled to be moving ahead with this cultural partnership and are incredibly excited for 2025 and beyond.”
