Freelands Studio Fellowship open for applications
Friday, 6 December, 2024The 2025 Freelands Studio Fellowship is now open for applications, until 12 noon on Monday 16 December, from studio-based artists who have graduated from Bath Spa University or one of the following seven participating universities:
- Belfast School of Art, Ulster University
- Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University
- Cardiff School of Art and Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University
- Duncan Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee
- Falmouth School of Art, Falmouth University
- Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
- School of Art and Media, University of Brighton
Established in 2021 by the Freelands Foundation, the Fellowship invites alumni who have maintained practice since graduating from an MA, MFA or BA (Hons) Fine Art and Contemporary Art practice degree from Bath School of Art, Film and Media to apply for a place at one of the other participating universities.
Similarly, graduates from the aforementioned universities can also apply for the chance to study at BSU’s modern, state-of-the-art Locksbrook Campus.
Starting in February 2025, fellows will be based at their host university for 12 months, receive a bursary of £26,000 and will have their own studio. Successful fellows will also have access to workshop and library facilities as well as regular contact with a dedicated mentor.
An opportunity to visit the partner universities in the role of a visiting lecturer/practitioner will also form part of the fellowship package, as well as a solo exhibition at their host university.
Talking about the fellowship, Mikey Thomas, a former Freelands Fellow at Bath School of Art, Film and Media said:
“Without the conditions that this fellowship has created I would not have been able to take the kind of risks that have propelled my practice into such new directions.”
Dr Natasha Kidd, Associate Vice-Provost Creative Engagement, and Catherine Parsonage, Teaching Fellow in Fine Art, said:
“The Freelands Studio fellow is an embedded and essential part of our community. Through our four years of experience participating in this fellowship we have found the fellow brings a contagious energy, new perspective, understanding, and experience to our students, academic, technical and operational teams.”
For a chance to take part in this year’s Freelands Studio Fellowship, graduates can apply via the Freelands Foundation website where you will also find further information and FAQs. Applications for 2025 close at midday on Monday 16 December 2024.
