BSU Welcomes Baarbie to Newton Park Campus
Tuesday, 1 April, 2025Spring has officially sprung at Baath Spa University’s Newton Park campus, but sunny days and daffodils aren’t the only new arrivals over the past few days.
Every year, the local sheep farmers move their flock into the nearby fields and this year’s cohort boasts a unique addition, a pink sheep.
Ewe might not believe it when you see it, but this woollen guest has been capturing the hearts and minds of visitors over the weekend, with pictures circulating on social media.
The sheep, affectionately named Baarbie, will likely be roaming the Newton Park campus fields for the next few months, grazing through the grass and no doubt delighting students and staff.
Newton St. Loe resident Iona Castle was one of the first to spot the sheep, with her picture on Instagram quickly going viral. Upon seeing the unique resident, she said:
“I thought I was still in my bed counting away when I saw it. The details are a little woolly but I was walking along and noticed this strange coloured blob in the distance. When I realised what it was I thought I’d put one too many sugars in my morning tea.”
It may seem like shear madness but with lambing season about to begin, it’s fair to say that BSU may be about to become the breeding ground for the world’s most unique sheep.
Speaking about the phenomenon, local sheep farmer A. Foals commented:
“I’ve never seen anything like it in my thirty years on the farm. I thought someone had been tampering with the flock but when I gave her a wash the colour didn’t come off.
My wife (Barbara) is hoping to have first dibs on the wool after shearing season, but we’ll see about that.”
When moving from lectures, heading to accommodation or simply roaming the stunning grounds, be sure to look out for Baarbie and share your images with Bath Spa University on social media.
PS: Happy April Fools from BSU.
