Friday, 10 January, 2025

Happy New Year from everyone at BSU! As we enter 2025, there are plenty of new and inspiring things coming up at the university. Why not take a sneak peek at some of the exciting events to come this year that you won’t want to miss…

Student showcases

Throughout the year, we are lucky to experience the talent of our students first hand with many showcases and performances from different subjects. January looks to start 2025 with a bang, as there are plenty of events to choose from, including: The Big Gig (Jan 14), Big Brother Macbeth live performances (Jan 13-25) and Rascals Variety Night (Jan 31). More details are available on the YourUniNews website page here.

Later in the year, with applications having just opened, Spark Fest will be back for another season starting on May 12 for four weeks of celebrating the creative work from students, alumni, partners and the collaborators at BSU School of Music and Performing Arts. Last year's trailer highlights an exciting taster of what’s to come.

Graduations

We always look forward to the momentous occasion that is graduation! We don’t have long to wait until our Winter ceremonies take place on February 4, and we get to celebrate with all our successful graduates. If you are curious about how our graduations work or simply want to relive the moment, all our ceremonies are recorded and posted on our YouTube!

Campus developments

At BSU, we are always looking for new ways to inspire students and, especially for the School of Sciences, 2025 looks to be the start of a new investigative journey. What was once our lambing shed has been transformed into a new mock crime scene room, complete with furniture, decorations and even realistic blood splatters. It aims to replicate real life scenario’s and give students a chance to apply their knowledge in an accurate and safe environment. The team are also helping to develop an eye tracking lab, and a pretend interrogation room with double sided glass, to provide the full forensic experience.

Newton Park campus

If you’re interested in investigative work yourself, why not have a look at some of our courses that get to use the new facilities and start your own journey?

Semester abroad deadline

Could 2025 be the beginning of your travel journey? If you’re in your first year and considering a semester abroad, the deadline is fast approaching (February 21 at midday). The semester abroad programme gives you the opportunity to do part of your degree at one of BSU’s partner universities abroad and really get immersed in a new life culture and a different education system.

To be eligible you need to:

  • Have achieved a minimum grade of 55% at application stage, and 60% (2:1) average grade at the end of your first year of studies.

Your placement will be for one semester during the second year of your undergraduate degree. The semester at your host university is usually around 4-5 months. You can find all the information you need here!

New year, new courses

Even more exciting, Summer 2025 will see the first time that the cohorts of our new courses will complete a year. First years from many new degrees including, Economics and Law, Forensic Science and Sports Media Production, to name a few, can be proud to look back on a year of learning, opportunities and high-quality project outcomes.

The Sports Media Production team have had an amazing time supporting our partnership with Bath City FC to get some interesting content of their games, which can be seen on the likes of their Instagram, take a look!
