Lyra Poetry Festival launches in Bristol

Friday, 27 March, 2020

Bath Spa Senior Lecturer and Reader in Creative Writing Lucy English has set up an exciting new poetry festival in Bristol with Bath Spa Creative Writing graduate Danny Pandolfi. The Festival ran for the first time in mid-March and was extremely popular, with Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s headline event boasting a sell-out crowd of 600 in attendance.

The Lyra Poetry Festival celebrates a wide range of poetry forms and formats, from spoken word poetry slams and
walking tours to prose poetry readings and workshops.

Lucy said, "The poetry slam was a huge success and the quality of poetry was high. It attracted many Bath Spa poets with the winner being graduate, Tierney Eliot. Well done to Tierney!"

Workshops were carried out virtually after public gatherings were halted on 16 March, and additional readings and performances have been rescheduled to coincide with Danez Smith’s tour later in the year.
