Resources of hope for teacher education in the 21st century

Monday 11 December, 2023 – Monday 11 December, 2023

Part of the School of Education Research Seminar Series 2023-24.

About the seminar

Building on the ideas of Raymond Williams and Paulo Freire, Professor Ian Menter will draw on his comparative research on teacher education to identify key threats, opportunities and challenges for contemporary teacher education.

He will suggest that the complexity and diversity of English teacher education in the last decade, as identified in the Bath Spa DITE project, has now been supplemented by increasing instability and uncertainty for providers.

Where can we find resources of hope, and what are they?

About the speakers

Professor Ian Menter is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the UK, and was President of the British Educational Research Association (BERA), 2013-15.

He is Emeritus Professor of Teacher Education and was formerly the Director of Professional Programmes in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford.

Please note: This is an event included in the programme of SoE Staff Development Day, and this will be a face-to-face seminar with the time and location to be confirmed nearer the time.
