Multigrade Schools: thinking differently about classrooms

Thursday 20 March, 2025 – Thursday 20 March, 2025
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Online (via Microsoft Teams)

Part of the School of Education Research Seminar Series 2024-25.

About the seminar

The standardisation of schooling systems sees students being grouped by age (or grade) and so the majority are taught in monograde classrooms. However, globally, 30% of the world’s children learn in multigrade classrooms. Classes with children from across a wide age range are usually considered outside the norm, hence peripheral and problematic.

In this seminar, Cath and Anne propose and discuss evidence from their research how these classes are spaces for thinking and doing differently, offering innovation and change for pedagogy.
