About this webinar

It's likely that when the term "mixed age schooling" is heard, teachers and parents immediately reach for the name Maria Montessori and her well known child-centred method.

However, the ideas behind mixed age teaching have far wider origins and far-reaching implications. Mixed age is an approach that is globally and nationally gaining recognition as a powerful supplement to mono-age provision.

During the webinar we explore how, in different situations, the temporary or permanent introduction of mixed age classes enhances social learning and inclusivity, and strengthens ties, both within the school and across the neighbouring community.

Webinar aims

  • To explore the many meanings and forms of mixed age applied in classroom contexts
  • To identify how space, time and materials can be used to support mixed age work
  • To connect mixed age with community and inclusion.

Key takeaways

  • References to materials that demonstrate mixed age provision
  • Links to practitioner groups/associations that are maximising mixed age provision in their community schools.
