Fine Art Alumna Jenny Brock opens a solo exhibition of her paintings and prints at Bath Artist Studios in March.
In Landscapes of Imagination, Jenny showcases works which bridge the gap between abstraction and realism, offering glimpses into ambiguous, half-imagined worlds and landscapes.
Working in the domain of painting, Jenny always involves semi-abstract or surreal elements, so that her work is ambiguous. The exhibition aims to be a personal and engaging experience.
Jenny's paintings evoke otherworldly vistas heavily inspired by the Romantic tradition such as Turner’s expressive layering and depth and Friedrich’s sublime atmospheres. She combines these Old Master traditions with more contemporary creative elements, such as vivid colours and spontaneous mark-making. Her playful approach is integral to her work’s finished appearance and creates a relationship between process and representation. The idea of coaxing an image out of the results of exploration is fascinating to her.
The exhibition runs from the 9 to 27 March, and is open from 12 to 5pm daily.
