Can You Hear Us?: Equality Week 2023
Monday 20 March, 2023 – Sunday 26 March, 20239:00 AM – 10:00 PM
This year the theme of our Equality Week is ‘Can you hear us?’
Throughout the week there will be a programme of events, centred around amplifying the voices of People of Colour, LGBTQIA+, disabled persons, and anyone who has ever felt like they’ve not been listened to. Sometimes the best way to learn, and take a step towards being an active ally is to listen to lived experiences.

Haile Selassie: I said, Can you hear us?
Date: Thursday, 23 March, 12pm-1pm, Newton Park, Booking essential
In 1936 HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I stood before the nations of the world and cried out for justice. He gave a grave warning of what could result if that moment was ignored. Ethiopia's Emperor made it clear that he spoke not only for his country, but for the many peoples of the world faced with aggression.
That same year he moved unexpectedly to Bath, to continue his fight for freedom and so began the special but unlikely relationship between the City of Bath and Ethiopia.
Since the time of Haile Selassie in Bath, Fairfield House, the Emperor’s former home has flourished into glowing and diverse community hub. However, this has not been without it's struggles, both for the communities of Fairfield House historically and for the building itself.
Join Ras Benji, Rastafari historian and project manager of Fairfield House to learn about HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I's enduring legacy in the city of Bath, and the unfulfilled potential in our local area, nationally and internationally.
