Cruising Nature—introduction to a reading practice

Wednesday 24 April, 2024 – Wednesday 24 April, 2024
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Newton Park, Main House, G15

This workshop will introduce you to the practice of cruising as a mode of reading—with a focus on the environments you inhabit and the ecologies all around us.

Cruising nature is an attempt, a starting point, to think about methods of queering nature writing.

We will build on the double meaning of the word cruising to ask what cruising the natural and non-human world might look like? What unexpected encounters might occur if we follow our desire into the unknown? How might this practice reorient us towards a dying planet?

Based on the idea of a journey without a goal or destination, you will be invited to think about weather, landscape, architecture, animals/plants (and the human if you wish).
