Bath Spa University has a long and successful history in initial teacher education. Our belief that ‘all children deserve the very best teachers’ is still central to our practice today.

We believe that education plays a key role in promoting social justice and reducing social inequalities, and that well-qualified and highly skilled teachers make a difference to the lives and futures of the learners they teach.

The Bath Spa Teacher

We believe that from the start of your journey to be an excellent teacher, you must recognise your responsibilities, as well as the impact you'll have on the lives of children and young people. From the start of your course, you'll be expected to make a positive contribution to children and young peoples’ learning and progress.

Because of this expectation, you'll become a Bath Spa Teacher. You'll train in some of our most exciting, innovative and challenging schools and learn first-hand from experienced classroom teachers.

In partnership with schools, you'll have the opportunity to become the very best teacher that all children and young people deserve: a creative practitioner, a critical thinker, a collaborative colleague and a professional teacher who cares for and nurtures the learners you teach.

ITE (Initial Teacher Education) Partnership

Genuine partnership, and sharing knowledge, expertise and skills to provide high quality training on the PGCE programme, continues to be at the heart of our provision, and the success of Bath Spa Teachers (BSTs) is the result of working closely with schools in our Partnership to produce a shared understanding of the expectations and requirements to help create the next generation of outstanding teachers.

As a partnership, we'll provide BSTs with challenging and highly effective training and support that will impact on their progress throughout their training year, and into their early careers as teachers. We will ensure that the quality of the ITE Partnership Curriculum they experience throughout their training and the accurate assessment we make of their progress and attainment will guarantee that they are worthy of employment within our partnership schools and beyond.
