Getting started – Bath Spa University

Getting started is easy. Just follow the steps below to make your transition to Bath Spa as smooth as possible.

Starting a new course?

We can't wait to welcome you to the Bath Spa community. Take a moment to work your way through these steps to ensure you're prepared.

Step 1: create a BSU account

You'll receive an email letting you know when online registration has opened for your course.

If you are a new student, you will need to create a Bath Spa online account using your six-digit student number. You will use this account to log in to all BSU online platforms, including online registration, so it's important that you make a note of your login details.

As part of this process, you'll be asked to set up the Self Service Password Reset Tool. The tool will give you the ability to change your password from anywhere at any time.

Step 2: online registration

Next, you'll need to log in to the online registration portal using your six-digit student number (this acts as your username) and the password you chose when creating your account.

If you need help with your online registration, please read through the FAQs and watch our handy video tutorial.

Step 3: check your enrolment arrangements

Check your enrolment arrangements. Once you've completed your online registration, you should receive confirmation that you've successfully enrolled with the University.

You'll need to complete your enrolment in order to have access to University online services and to ensure you are eligible to attend teaching.

Step 4: plan your first week

If you're studying at Newton Park, our Locksbrook campus or Corsham Court, be sure to take a look at our Welcome Activities page for useful information to help you get started at Bath Spa.

Studying at a partner institution?

Please check induction arrangements with your Course Leader or partner institution.

Step 5: pick your modules

Once you've created an account in online registration, you can read up on the modules you'll be studying (please create an account in online registration first to access this page).

You'll be automatically enrolled on your core, compulsory modules, but you may have some optional modules to pick too.

Your module timetable containing your core, compulsory modules will be made available to you before the week commencing 6 February. Instructions will be sent via email, and instructions on how to access your timetable will also be provided during your first introductory week. For the first weeks of your course, you'll only be attending your core, compulsory modules.

If you do have optional modules to pick, you'll be talked through this process by both the Timetabling team and Course Leader during your initial introductory week, and you'll be given further guidance by your tutors in your first lessons for your core, compulsory modules. Your optional modules will then be added to your timetable after you have made your selections, ready for when lessons for these modules begin.

If you have any questions, please raise an inquiry via MyServices (please create an account in online registration first to access this page).

Step 6: final steps
  • Get a healthy start to your studies by making sure your government recommended vaccinations, including the COVID-19 vaccination, are up-to-date.
  • Visit our Student Finance pages to find out about instalment options and how to pay your fees (new international students are required to pay fees in full before your course starts)
  • Remember to check that your funding is in place (UK/EU students)
  • If your fees are due to be paid by a private sponsor/employer, please email scanned evidence to fees@bathspa.ac.uk to avoid entering your card details during online registration
  • All packed and accommodation sorted? Visit our Accommodation Support pages if you need more information.

Returning student?

We're looking forward to welcoming you back. Before you can progress to the next level of your course, you'll need to get a few things sorted.

Step 1: online registration

Complete online registration by the enrolment deadline in your registration email.

If you need help with your online registration, watch our handy video tutorial or visit our FAQs page.

Step 2: complete your enrolment

All other returning students are required to complete enrolment by clicking the 'confirm enrolment' button in Step 3 of online registration.

Step 3: September returner? Find your Welcome Week activities

Studying at a Bath Spa campus? Returning undergraduate students have mandatory course-related sessions over Welcome Week, while returning postgraduate students will be contacted by their course team if there are any welcome sessions planned.

On another course or at a partner campus? Please check any 'welcome back' activities with your Course Leader or partner institution.
