Doris Southcott Bursary – Bath Spa University

Studying Fashion Design or Textile Design? You may be eligible for funding to further your creative expression.

The Doris Southcott Bursary can help you to:

  • Purchase equipment and materials required for the course, including printing credits
  • Contribute towards fashion design, textiles and fabric technologies-related trips and activities such as Paris, Japan, Stroud and Eindhoven (other trips will be considered where appropriate)
  • Fund student fashion shows to include the student contribution and additional costs for the show(s).

Payments

The amount you are awarded depends on the level of financial support you have received from Student Finance England.

To ensure that you continue to receive the payments in each year of study, you must submit a report and receipts that demonstrate how you’ve used the bursary.

Undergraduate students

  • Lowest household income band (under £25,000)

    You will receive £1500 over three years of undergraduate study

    Year one: £400
    Year two: £400
    Year three: £700
  • Middle household income band (£25,001-£35,000)

    You will receive £1000 over three years of undergraduate study

    Year one: £300
    Year two: £300
    Year three: £400
  • Top household income band (over £35,001) or no information shared with the university about household income

    You will receive £500 over three years of undergraduate study

    Year one: £150
    Year two: £150
    Year three: £200

Postgraduate students

  • If you are studying full-time, you may receive £300 per year
  • If you are studying part-time, you may receive £150 per year

"I knew that my final year was going to be incredibly time consuming, and I was concerned about the financial costs attached to this year. I didn’t want to jeopardise my study time by taking on extra work to cover these costs. So, to be awarded funds from the Doris Southcott Bursary was an unbelievable surprise, and one that made this final year so successful for me.

Criteria 

To be eligible for this award, you must be:

  1. Aged between 18-25.
  2. Studying one of the following courses:

    • Fashion Design
    • Textile Design
  3. Your permanent residence before coming to University must have been in one of the following areas:

    • Somerset
    • North Somerset
    • Bath and North East Somerset.

Applications

There is no application process for this bursary.

If you fulfil the criteria and meet our terms and conditions, you will automatically receive a targeted email from our External Affairs Office, enabling you to apply for funds from the Doris Southcott Bursary.
